Share your favourite piece of original canon.

We all have a favourite piece of original canon. Maybe that's a particular episode of a show, maybe a specific scene, maybe a whole storyline. Maybe it's one of those but from a movie. Maybe a comic, and you have a favourite piece of art. Maybe it's a chapter or a character in a book, or a song from a musical. Anything goes.

These kind of questions always have me stumped for an answer, because it's so hard to choose one. I feel like a parent being asked to choose their favorite child!

So, to simplify this, my favorite canon of 2024 was Buffy the Vampire Slayer.

My Hulu subscription was expiring and I've never seen the show so I decided to give it a try. I was curious about what's so good about the show that it became such an influential figure in pop culture. It rightfully deserves that position! There's many things that doesn't hold up very well nowadays, but overall the show holds up really well.

As to when exactly did I fall in love with this show... There were a lot to like in Season 1, "I may be dead, but I'm still pretty" is iconic, but Season 2 solidified the show's position as one of my favorites.

The scene of Buffy shooting the Judge with a bazooka is one of my all time favorite moments in the series. The whole episode Innocence was great, really.

I didn't care much about Angel in Season 1, but the Angelus plotline was fantastic. The scene where Giles found Jenny dead was very hard to watch.

Season 2 also introduced Drusilla and Spike, two of my favorite characters. I loved Spike from the moment he ran over the Sunnydale sign! Drusilla and Spike had such a fun Bonnie-and-Clyde relationship in the season. I ended up becoming a Spuffy shipper later on but still.

I am SO disappointed we didn't get more of Ethan Rayne in the series. Halloween was such a fun episode, and I think the show would have benefited from keeping him and his chaotic antics around longer.

Buffy herself was amazing in Season 2. I already liked her a lot in Season 1, but her character arc exploring her trauma from her first death and her accepting her role as Slayer despite her desires for a normal life made me fall in love with her. She's amazing!

s2 was my first season! (i tuned in about when angel lost his soul and boy was i confused.) it really did have some great episodes. i mean, the bazooka, seriously.

(the mayor was always my favorite big bad - harry groener was in oppenheimer for a hot second and i almost vibrated out of my seat with glee - but spike&dru were really good villains.)

Buffy the Vampire Slayer is among my top favorite television shows of all time. I remember watching it live, first discovering it during the middle of its third season airing, and I fell in love with it, and it has remained a favorite ever since. Buffy is such a beautifully crafted character, much of this is due to SMG and how she portrayed her with a combination of strength and vulnerability, and never shying away from the fact that she is just a girl (a teenager at the beginning of the series) who has to grow up incredibly fast because of her Slayer calling.

I enjoyed season one for what it was, but I do think season two upped those stakes once the Angelus plotline started. That's where the show truly blossomed and found its footing.

I agree that there really should've been more Ethan Rayne. He was such a fascinating character, especially his past and history with Giles. In fact, I wanted more Giles backstory and lore to be fleshed out a bit. We only got glimpses here and there.

Literally, I can gush about this show for hours. :)
