Happy New Year
Jan. 1st, 2023 12:47 amIt's already 2023... Time sure fly by fast.
2022 was full of ups and downs as usual, but somehow I feel a bit sad about it. I was in a great position at the beginning of 2022, and now I feel like a failure at the end of 2022. I took winter break as an opportunity to do a partial digital detox and just be a potato. It was really nice having some downtime to myself after an extremely stressful semester. Really could use a spa session, but alas, too expensive.
Since I started in a good place and ended in a bad place in 2022, here's to hoping I'll end in a good place in 2023.
Been doing my end of the year reading catchup. Finally read Babel by R.F. Kuang and Iron Widow by Xiran Jay Zhao. Babel was fantastic right up to the 2/3 mark, and then it kind of fell off the cliff. Alright. R.F. Kuang at least improved her writing since The Poppy War, so there's that. Had anyone inform me that Iron Widow was nothing deep, I would have significantly enjoyed it knowing what to expect. Certainly looking forward to Heavenly Tyrant in August 2023.
Currently reading Empire of Pain by Patrick Radden Keefe, and I thought I couldn't hate the Sackler family more, but apparently my hatred is in fact indefinite. Incredible investigative work though. I think when I'll hit the 50% mark, I'll switch to a lighter book then finish Empire of Pain.
I'll be back to work next week, so I hope to knock out a couple more books by then. I also imported my Goodreads account to Storygraph, so I hope to be more active on Storygraph after cleaning up my lists.
And here's to posting more on here in 2023!
