Snowflake Challenge #3 | Changing Fannish Opinions

In your own space, talk about a fannish opinion you hold that has changed over time.

When I started out, I was pretty inflexible as a fan. Part of my inflexibility came from my editing days at wikis, anything that diverged too much or inconsistent with a canon got on my nerves. Weirdly enough, I was alright with AUs, something about them being intentionally different from the canon didn't bother me at all. I also had very strict opinions regarding ships, such as who got to top or bottom, some extreme NOTPs, and more.

Since then, I've mellowed out quite a lot. It's so interesting to explore what-ifs in canons, and I don't mind inconsistencies anymore. I still have some shipping preferences, but they aren't very strong anymore. It doesn't annoy me if I see something that doesn't match my preferences. Sometimes I even discover new likes!

When I look back, I marvel at how much energy I had. I have to say I much prefer this significantly chilled-out me :)

I am so chilled out compared to my early days in fandom. It's a good thing, overall, though I do miss that early flush of enthusiasm/infatuation. I don 't think I'm capable of that much emotion about TV or even books anymore.

I know what you mean, the rush and excitement of finding a new fandom is so amazing when it happens! I actually lamented about how I didn't feel that for a very long time, but then I just got it with Buffy (surprise?!), so you never know.

The chilling out is great. The passion of early fandom days has its uses - and honestly, I'm kind of jealous of my younger self for the energy I had in those days - but the more relaxed approach to fandom feels so much more healthy. I'm glad that you prefer your chilled-out self :)

Muito feliz pela sua participação, gostei de saber que você está mais leve, eu também tomei iniciativas assim com o passar dos anos. Acho que inicialmente todos temos uma energia muito grande nós fandoms que às vezes nos faz ser uma pessoa um pouco chatinha perante os outros por termos opiniões fortes e imutáveis. Por sorte o tempo passa e a gente cresce

I think you're right about our initial high energy contributing to our strong opinions. Having a lot of energy has its pros and cons, but ultimately, I appreciate my current low energy self more. It's good I got to learn from my past experiences.

For sure, the intense passion wasn't all bad and probably was necessary for my growth. It was really fun and I'll always treasure my memories of eagerly staying up all night or chatting with friends. Still, I'm perfectly happy with my current relaxed approach, which I agree is more healthy.

Tenho tentado ficar com a energia mais baixa, mas é só eu assistir algo que gosto como Smallville no momento que do nada me pego viciada em tudo, querendo saber mais e mais até ficar sobrecarregada.
